Roo WATERHOUSE

Roo Waterhouse’s unique, carefully rendered, reverential ‘Shelf Portrait’ oil paintings capture and celebrate treasured books. Roo’s talent is to both reproduce and abstract their worn history, the paintings seeming to contain both the books themselves and the relationships they hold within them.

Blending together a love of oil painting; books and typography, Roo’s work holds a fascination with how our bookshelves can hold on to our stories and reflect our lives.

Roo’s art education began at Chelsea School of Art, then London College of Printing, studying Typographic Design, followed later in life by a Visual Art degree, specialising in painting, at Leeds Met University.

Roo lives and paints in the artistic hub of Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, with gallery paintings and bespoke commissions held in private collections around the UK and beyond.
